About me
Art hadn't crossed my mind and I'd not picked up my brushes for years, probably since college in 2001...
I was studying Art at A Level in Norfolk. My teacher at the time said “Mary, you’ll never be an artist”, so as a young, impressionable teen……I quit.
19 years later the pandemic hit and I found myself alone, looking after my two children. I was, like most parents, tearing my hair out and I needed an escape, so I dug out all my old art supplies….. This is where Mary Hyde Art started!
Since then, I have started teaching classes for children and adults and totally fallen in love with creating again. I have sold more than I ever hoped for and I am managing to do the thing I love and support my children in the process. What else could you wish for? I am extremely grateful to be so fortunate!
Being creative is in my blood. My father was a carpenter, making the most beautiful kitchens. The way he transformed wood into pieces of furniture amazes me still. He taught himself too, after failing woodwork at school! Sadly he died in 2008. I wish I had spent more time watching him work, I did spend a lot of time in his workshop though, earning pocket money by sweeping up the sawdust, even had a mask with my name on it!
He taught me many skills over the years, the most important one being patience and if you keep trying you will succeed. When he died we had many odd things happen, we were visited by dragonflies in the strangest places. They have become a comfort for my family, so in every painting I create I hide a little dragonfly. It is my own fun game for my customers, like “Where’s Wally” I guess.
So…… can you find yours?
